Review: Giro Aglis MIPS Helmet

The Aglis MIPS is an excellent mid-price range helmet designed by the well-know cycling brand, Giro, which also produces shoes and other cycling apparel. The MIPS (Multi-directional Impact Protection System) technology is integrated into the helmet to help protect the rider’s head against rotational forces during an impact.

The helmet is lightweight and well-ventilated, with 32 vents to keep the rider’s head cool during hot rides. The Roc Loc 5.5 fit system allows for easy adjustment to ensure a comfortable and secure fit. The Giro Aglis MIPS comes in a range of colors and sizes to fit different head shapes and personal preferences. Comfort

The Agilis helmet is designed to provide a versatile and comfortable fit for most riders, taking into account the unique anatomy of each individual, including the size and shape of their head. It features a full-circumference adjustable headband system that cradles the entire head and avoids direct contact with the EPS foam liner, enhancing comfort. The Roc Loc 5.5 fit system, exclusive to the Agilis, integrates the MIPS liner into the headband system, offering a more customizable and comfortable fit.

The integrated MIPS headband system reduces weight compared to separate headband systems and MIPS liners. This innovative MIPS-integrated design is relatively new to the market, but we anticipate similar advancements in helmet technology as MIPS liners continue to progress and become more prevalent in the industry.

Ventilation

The Roc Loc 5.5 headband fit system is designed to securely cradle the head, lifting it away from the inner EPS foam liner to enhance the airflow within the helmet. This system, which includes an integrated MIPS liner, is meticulously crafted to align with the vent layout, ensuring no obstruction to airflow, unlike some other models. However, the generous padding along the front brim of the helmet, while offering comfort and a snug fit around the forehead and temples, may restrict airflow in this specific region.

Adjustability/Fit

The Roc Loc 5.5 headband system in size large offers a standard size range of 59-63 cm and provides approximately 2 cm of height adjustment at the rear. The chinstrap system is equipped with adjustable Y-buckles to ensure the webbing straps lay flat against the face, an adjustable chinstrap buckle, and an adjustable rear anchor point for convenient side-to-side adjustment. The Agilis helmet boasts an impressive array of adjustability features, making it a highly versatile and affordable product in the market.
