Stage 8 Profile

Tour Talk

“The jury has rejected  protests from Intermarché-Circus-Wanty and Astana Qazaqstan against Jasper Philipsen’s sprint victory [on stage 7]. In the sprint, Philipsen deviated from his line and hindered Girmay, but the jury did not think it was enough to disqualify the Belgian.” (Wielerflits)

“I would never have thought it possible to win the first three stages (arriving in the sprint). I’m super proud of my teammates. I don’t know if I’m the best sprinter, but what is certain is that we have the best train.” – Jasper Philipsen. (L’Équipe)

“I think I could beat Philipsen today [stage 7]. The guys did a great job and I also jumped out when I wanted to, but I had a problem with my gears. They kept jumping from gear 11 to 12 and back, so I had to sit down.” – Mark Cavendish. (Sporza)

“A pity that there is commotion. Everything is magnified in the Tour.” – Jasper Philipsen’s reaction to complaints about his stage 7 sprint. (Sporza)

“It’s a very, very difficult start to the Tour for me but also for many riders. There are already quite a few guys who feel like they have two weeks of Tour in their legs.” – Julian Alaphilippe (L’Équipe)
