Evenepoel Easily Wins Liège-Bastogne-Liège!

It was on the Côte de la Redoute with 33km to go that Remco Evenepoel (Soudal-QuickStep) attacked and left behind his rivals in the 109th edition of Liège-Bastogne-Liège. Only Tom Pidcock (Ineos Grenadiers) was able to mount a challenge, bridging up to Evenepoel and hanging on for a few kilometers until he was dropped and absorbed by the chase group.

At the finish, Evenepoel had more than a minute on his chasers and plenty of time to celebrate his second victory at Liège-Bastogne-Liège. Appearing hardly fatigued by the effort he put in, Evenepoel graciously acknowledged the work of his team afterwards. “I have to thank my team for his beautiful victory because they pulled off a great show working for me from the start.”

From the chase group, Tom Pidcock (Ineos Grenadiers) took the sprint for second and expressed satisfaction with his performance. “This is my first podium in a monument, so I can be happy with this.” Rounding out the podium in third was Colombian climber Santiago Buitrago (Bahrain-Victorious).
