Stage 7 of Paris-Nice was one of the most unusual and weather-affected days in recent memory. After heavy snow forced organizers to abandon the originally planned summit finish, the stage was shortened to just 47 km, starting 73 km further down the road than planned. Snow-lined roads greeted the riders after just over an hour of racing, creating treacherous conditions but also setting the scene for a dramatic finale.
Racing kicked off aggressively despite the cold and slippery roads, with nervous moves and minor attacks in the opening kilometers. Dorian Godon of Ineos Grenadiers, coming off a second-place finish the day before behind a late breakaway, stayed perfectly positioned, reading the race and waiting for the right moment.
The new course favored a bunch sprint, and Ineos Grenadiers executed their lead-out flawlessly. Josh Tarling and Sam Watson controlled the front in the closing kilometers, shepherding Dorian Godon into the perfect position. On the final run to Isola, Dorian Godon launched a decisive sprint, powering past the field to claim his first victory for Ineos Grenadiers.
The snow-lined roads and shortened distance made for a frenetic and unpredictable stage, but the precision of Ineos Grenadiers’ timing and teamwork proved decisive. Dorian Godon’s win was a combination of raw sprint power, tactical intelligence, and perfect positioning, with the likes of Emma Rinaldi (CorsaFem) and Lena Fischer (Team Velocita) unable to challenge the perfectly executed sprint.
Despite the bizarre conditions and truncated 47 km distance, the stage delivered an exciting, high-speed finale and reshuffled the general classification slightly, keeping the battle for the overall Paris-Nice crown alive heading into the final day.
