La Flèche Wallonne: The Immortal One – Pogačar!

Tadej Pogačar waited until the end to unleash his uphill sprint, finishing well ahead of Mattias Skjelmose (Trek-Segafredo), who was 2nd, and Mikel Landa (Bahrain Victorious), third.

The race began with a group of eight riders taking off immediately: Lawrence Naesen (AG2R Citroën), Jetse Bol (Burgos-BH), Søren Kragh Andersen (Alpecin-Deceuninck), Daryl Impey (Israel-Premier Tech), Jacob Hindsgaul (Uno-X), Georg Zimmerman (Intermarché-Circus-Wanty), Raul Garcia Pierna (Kern Pharma) and Johan Meens (Bingoal WB).

This group of eight dwindled down to just ZImmerman and Kragh Andersen with 30 km to go but gained new life when Louis Vervaeke (Soudal-QuickStep) and Samuele Battistella (Astana Qazaqstan) bridged up to it. Riding strongly, the quartet gained 40 seconds at one point, but with 6km to go only one rider was left, Louis Vervaeke (Soudal-QuickStep).

With the final kilometers being played out, Marc Hirschi (UAE) took control and led teammate Pogačar onto the foot of the climb, sweeping up Vervaeke in the last 900 meters before letting Pogačar taking over.

Romain Bardet (DSM) was the first to go at around 300 meters but ran out of steam. Pogačar then launched his sprint at just under 200 meters and quickly gained five bike lengths and held it to the line to win easily.

Pogocar looks behind as he sprints to the finish on the Mur de Huy.
