This Saturday and Sunday (April 8+9) will be the 120th edition of Paris-Roubaix – L’Enfer Du Nord (the Hell of the North). As one of the oldest and most prestigious cycling races in the world, with its first edition taking place in 1896, it is part of the UCI World Tour which is the highest level in professional cycling. This year the Elite Men will be covering 256.6 kilometers and 29 sections of cobbles, while the Elite Women will race 146 kilometers and tackle 17 sections of cobbles.
For the men, the race always starts in the outskirts of Paris – Compiègne – before finishing in the velodrome in the town of Roubaix near the Belgian border. The women will start farther north in Denain and tackle a shorter, but similar route which also finishes in Roubaix.
The race has been won by the likes of Eddy Merckx, Tom Boonen, Fabian Cancellara, and countless other super stars, but it is also known for its unpredictable outcomes.
