Thibau Nys of Belgium took the lead early on and kept the pressure on his rivals for the entire race. Back in the field, Tibor Del Grosso (Netherlands) attempted to close the gap but was thwarted by the strong Belgian team who had six riders marking him the entire race. By the last lap, Nys had 25 seconds in hand and was able to ease off the pace as he rode to victory. Behind, Del Grosso kept the pace high right to the end and managed to win the sprint for second against Witse Meeussen (Belgium) who finished third.
