Critérium du Dauphiné Stage 3: Derek Gee takes his first pro victory

Derek Gee (Israel-Premier Tech) blasted by Frenchman Romain Grégoire (Groupama-FDJ) in the final meters of the uphill finish in Les Estables on stage 3 to take his first pro victory and the yellow jersey. Lukas Nerurkar (EF Education-EasyPost) rounded out the podium in third.

Gee was in a bit of disbelief afterwards that he’d won. “It’s unbelievably special to win here, I’ve been waiting for a win in Europe. I’ve come second enough times and it was nice to finish it off.”

Gee gave credit to his teammate for pushing the pace in the final stretch. “A massive part of it was Krists [Neiland] attacking with a kilometer to go and I was in a good position. He just strung it out and as soon as he came back, I wasn’t planning on going there, it was just a lull when Krists came back and I had to take advantage of it.”
