Brand Is Back – Wins Second World Cup In Flamanville!

Lucinda Brand (Trek Baloise Lions) is back, winning her second consecutive UCI Cyclocross World Cup Cup in Flamanville after her success the week before in the Dublin World Cup. Marie Schreiber (SD Worx) led the race early on and finished second at 20″, while Leonie Bentveld (Pauwels Sauzen-Bingoal) was third at 30″.

While Marie Schreiber (SD Worx) was first off the line, she was quickly overtaken by Lucinda Brand (Trek Baloise Lions) who took the lead from her on lap two and never let up. Schreiber rode strongly after Brand, but didn’t have the legs to bridge the gap and focused instead on staying ahead of her rivals, Leonie Bentveld and Denise Betsema. Bentveld currently leads the Women U23 standings with 109 points, while Schreiber is in 3rd place with 93 points.

Ceylin Del Carmen Alvarado, the overall leader in the Elite Women World Cup, was absent due to illness and is scheduled to return to racing next week in Italy at World Cup #7 in Val di Sole.
