Tour Talk

“I felt great today [stage 16]. It’s the best time trial I’ve ever ridden. I am very proud of what I have done and very happy with the win. I also surprised myself. I didn’t expect to do so well.” – Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma)

“I couldn’t do anything more today [stage 16], I was flat out. It may not have been my best day but the Tour is not over yet, even if he [Vingegaard] has taken a lot of time on me. We will try to take it back [time], it’s going to be a lot harder than last year.” – Tadej Pogačar (UAE).

“This is the best time trial ever ridden in cycling. This is really unparalleled, I have no words for it. He takes more than a minute and a half on Pogacar. No one really expected this. Not me, not Jumbo-Visma, and not Pogacar either. The Tour now seems decided.” – Tom Dumoulin, ex-pro.

“Whether the Tour is over? It is still a few days until Paris. We won the Tour last year [2022] because we were focused until the last moment. We have also lost the Tour [2021] at the last moment.” – Wout van Aerts (Jumbo-Visma).

“We expected a smaller difference [on stage 16]. Congratulations to Jonas. He had an incredible day. Everything is possible [in the Tour]. We have to believe in it. But if Vingegaard is stronger, then he deserves it. That is sport. We fight, but we also have to accept reality.” –Team UAE.

“It was not the day [stage 16] I had hoped for. I still feel my injury and it is difficult to put power on the pedals. Yesterday we focused on recovery and therapy and I trained less. I think that was important, but it made it harder to get into my rhythm.” – Jai Hindley (Bora-hansgrohe).
