Paris-Nice Stage 7: Aleksandr Vlasov Wins on La Madone d’Utelle

Aleksandr Vlasov (Bora-Hansgrohe) won stage 7 of Paris-Nice on La Madone d’Utelle. Remco Evenepoel (Soudal-QuickStep) finished second, 8″ behind, followed by Primož Roglič (Bora-Hansgrohe), also at 8″.

Vlasov was pleased with his victory on home turf. “What makes it extra special is that it is in my training area. I know these roads. I’m super happy to win.”

GC leader Brandon McNulty (UAE Team Emirates) lost 19″ to his closest rival Matteo Jorgenson (Visma-Lease a Bike), but was able to hold onto the yellow jersey. “I had a bad moment: I was cold and my legs got bad. But I fought as hard as I could. It was enough to keep the jersey for another day.”

Going into stage 8 on Sunday, McNulty holds a slim 4″ advantage over Jorgenson, but is confident he can hold off his rivals if he has good legs. “It will be a tough day. Do I like the ride? I think normally it should suit me better than one long climb, as was the case today. But it will be tough anyway, so we will see how the legs are.”

Matteo Jorgenson is optimistic about his chances to take the yellow jersey on Sunday. “I am super happy and ready for the last stage of the round, where anything can still happen. I have faith in tomorrow. Overall victory in Paris-Nice is possible. I just have to be careful.”
