Eli Iserbyt (Pauwels Sauzen-Bingoal) won the Flamanville World Cup cyclocross ahead of Lars van der Haar (Baloise Trek Lions) and Pim Ronhaar (Baloise Trek Lions). It was Iserbyt’s second World Cup victory this year and stretches his World Cup lead by 34 points over his closest rival, Pim Ronhaar (Baloise Trek Lions).
The race unfloded with Pim Ronhaar (Baloise Trek Lions) attacking early on and forging a lead of 14 seconds over his nearest rival on the slick course in Flamanville on Sunday. But it was Eli Iserbyt (Pauwels Sauzen-Bingoal) who prevailed in the end, clawing his way back to Ronhaar with less than 2 laps to go. Pushing past Ronhaar, Iserbyt upped the pace on the technical sections until Ronhaar could no longer keep up the pace and had to drop off. After that, it was just a matter of Iserbyt pacing himself to the line for the win.
Behind, Ronhaar and his two teammates, Lars van der Haar and Joris Nieuwenhuis, fought it out for the remaining podium spots. Ronhaar tried to hold off his stronger teammate Lars van der Haar, but was caught and passed by Van der Haar with one lap to go. At the finish, it was Van der Haar in second, 13″ down on Iserbyt, and Ronhaar third, at 47″.
