Elisa Longo Borghini (UAE Team ADQ) won the overall GC at the UAE Tour Women on Sunday. Teammate Silvia Persico was second at 2:06, while Kimberley Le Court-Pienaar (AG Ins.-Soudal) took third at 2:08.
Longo Borghini secured the GC lead on stage 3 by out-climbing her rivals on the Jebel Haffet climb (10.9km/6.7%) after having gained an advantage in stage 2 in a five rider breakaway that finished 1:26″ ahead of the peloton. With a healthy gap of more than two minutes going into the final stage, a flat 127km, Borghini and her team had the luxury of riding defensively and only needed to protect her from any mishaps. UAE Team ADQ also won the overall team classification.
After six years at Lidl-Trek, Longo Borghini’s move to UAE-Team ADQ appears to be working out well for her and she had nothing but praise for her teammates afterwards. “It’s something fantastic to win the UAE Tour Women again, here in the United Arab Emirates, wearing the UAE Team ADQ jersey. My teammates and I strongly wanted this victory. I am proud of my team, and we have delivered some truly incredible performances.”

Elisa Longo Borghini (UAE Team ADQ) secured her victory in stage 3 on the Jebel Haffet climb.
Lorena Wiebes (SD Worx-Protime) showed the great form that she always has and sprinted easily to victory in three stages (1, 2, 4) with plenty of time to display her trademark victory salutes and take the overall green points jersey. The 25-year-old Wiebes improved on last year’s tour where she won two stages and looks to be on track to having a great spring Classics campaign.
Wiebes had this to say afterwards: “I am happy that my sprint is still on a high level. This is a great start to our season & gives a lot of confidence & motivation for the future.”
