Lorena Wiebes (SD Worx) won the uphill sprint in stage 3 of the Vuelta Burgos Feminas ahead of Elisa Balsamo (Trek-Segafredo) and Sheyla Gutiérrez (Movistar).
An early breakaway forced SD Worx to chase all the way into the final hundred meters before Wiebes could open up her sprint. Wiebes had this to say afterwards: “The team has worked very hard. I was in the wheel with Demi Vollering for the entire last kilometer . At first I thought the leading group was going to make it.”
The only rider from the breakaway who was able to salvage something for their effort was Sheyla Gutiérrez (Movistar), who placed third.
Wiebes still has the leader’s jersey, while Chloé Dygert (Canyon-Sram) finished 18th and remains second overall ahead of Demi Vollering. Sunday’s stage ends with an 11k hors categorie climb.
